This is a developmental position which leads to the full performance position (GS-8). As the incumbent progresses in knowledge and skill, more difficult and responsible assignments will be made.

Apply specialized knowledge in all administrative funtional areas for the office, including budget monitoring, funds and property control, purchasing, contract monitoring, vehicle use and maintenance, travel, time and attendance, and personnel actions.
Serve as liaison with Regional Headquarters and NOAA support officies on all administrative matters.
Serve as office manager, establishing and maintaining filing and routing of office records, forms, correspondence and mail in accordance with established guidelines.
Assure accurate and prompt customer assistance and referral.
Maintain appointments and office suspense calendars for management team.
Compose non-technical correspondence and prepare letters, reports and other documents.
Apply knowledge of organization and mission to refer customers and assist in providing readily available weather and hydrological information.
There is no positive education requirement for this position.
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-7 level:
One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level of the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Performing a variety of administrative support functions with require decision-making. Such experience must be in at least three or more areas including procurement, budget/finance, human resources, property management, secretarial functions and office automation.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
