Job Description The Associate Vice President serves as a principal leader for strategic academic initiatives in the Office of the Provost.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President and University Provost, the Associate Vice President works closely with Vice Provosts and Deans.
Key accountabilities include project oversight and leadership, project management, administration, and consultation.
Job Responsibilities Coordinating and communicating key initiatives involving the provost leadership team, deans, and senior administrators.
Working with the university provost, vice provosts, deans and other senior administrators to lead and oversee institution-wide projects and implement new programs, policies, and initiatives through the Office of the Provost.
Working collaboratively with university leadership to analyze key projects and establish necessary project plans, schedules, resources, reporting elements, and risk mitigation.
Providing leadership for communication, strategic planning and other administrative functions in support of the Office of the Provost.
Leading and directing a broad range of Provost-sponsored institutional or divisional initiatives to successful on-time completion.
Driving development of scope, budget, and resourcing needed for projects to succeed; identifying and facilitating resolution of risks and issues.
Providing necessary infrastructure to track progress of a variety of short-and longer-term projects, and employing project management tools to lead complex initiatives, with multiple stakeholders, to timely completion.
Building and sustaining strong and effective relationships with administrative offices in support of the Office of the Provost.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
4 or more years of leading across organizations.
5-7 years of management experience.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications Relevant bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience Candidates should demonstrate success in collaborating with multiple stakeholders and leading initiatives in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Demonstrated success within an academic enterprise, including successful collaborations with deans, chairs, faculty, advancement professionals, and/or other administrators.
Demonstrated success in project management including complex scheduling and communications, use of project management software.
Demonstrated success managing complex projects, including the ability to organize, take initiative, and operate independently with minimal direction.
Facility with data sharing, and demonstrated experience with data management Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Highly developed degree of confidentiality, tact, judgment, and initiative.

General Information Northern Arizona University has a student population of 29,569, including approximately 21,000 on its main campus in Flagstaff and the remainder at more than 20 locations statewide and online.

Background Information This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position.
Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following:
a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing.
This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Administrators are hired on a contract basis renewable each year according to terms of the Conditions of Administrative Service.

Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan).
Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.
If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment.
New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment.
The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
