The NAU system title for this position is Director, Human Resources.
Job Description Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Human Resources (AVP-HR), the Director, Human Resources, provides leadership, direction, guidance, oversight, and day-to-day administration of the HR Employee Relations unit and functions.
Establishes and implements unit policies, processes, procedures, and programs to advance strategic initiatives and ensure appropriateness and consistency.
Advise supervisors, managers, and university leadership on methods to resolve conflict that minimize risk and promote effective employee engagement and productivity.
Develops and maintains effective relationships with a wide diversity of employee constituents, and demonstrates commitment to valuing and respecting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Serves as a member of the HR Management Team, provides strategic leadership for employee relations, and collaboratively works to exemplify the desired culture of HR and NAU.
Consultation & Strategic Planning - 30% In collaboration and partnership with AVP-HR, provides leadership, direction, guidance, oversight, and day-to-day administration of the HR Employee Relations.

Collaborates with other university offices and HR functional areas to establish procedures, resolve problems, and coordinate efforts.
Collaborates with HR leaders, Office of General Counsel, the Office of Equity and Access, Disability Resources, and other internal stakeholders to develop and implement employee relations strategies and cross-functionality to meet goals and objectives and reduce risk of litigation.
Establishes, collects, and reports appropriate metrics to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of HR employee relations unit.
Tracks and manages employee relations case cycle - from initial discussions to formal/informal resolution.
Organize and direct special programs and projects among team members.
Employee Relations - 25% Provides leadership, collaboration, guidance, coaching, and support on all types of employee relations issues and works promptly and strategically with key partners to resolve conflict, mitigate organizational risk, and maintain high levels of performance and retention.
Provides information, interpretation, advice, training, and counsel to leadership, management, and employees regarding employee relations matters.
Responds to questions and issues from employees and management regarding workplace concerns, appropriate corrective and disciplinary actions, terminations, non-renewals, grievances, and dispute resolution.
Leads the investigation and resolution of complaints of the highest complexity and sensitivity, ensuring investigations of complaints are conducted in an objective, accurate and thorough manner.
Conducts investigations of reported employee misconduct and prepares or assists supervisors to prepare documentation for university response.
Serves as facilitator when appropriate.
Applies institutional standards, policies, and guidelines.
Ensure adherence with internal controls and external requirements.
Provides interpretation, information and advice regarding university policies and procedures, ABOR, Arizona Revised Code, FLSA, and other rules and regulations that may impact the University.
Collaborates with AVP-HR on potential legal issues.
Performance Management - 20% Provides leadership, collaboration, guidance, coaching, and support on performance management programs and processes working strategically with key partners to ensure the advancement of strategic initiatives.
Provides information, interpretation, advice, training, and counsel to leadership, management, and employees regarding performance management.
Responds to questions and issues from employees and management regarding performance management programs and processes.
Applies institutional standards, policies, and guidelines.
Ensure adherence with internal controls and external requirements.
Provides interpretation, information and advice regarding university policies and procedures, ABOR, Arizona Revised Code, FLSA, and other rules and regulations that may impact the University.
Collaborates with AVP-HR on potential legal issues.
Supervision - 10% Provides leadership, direction, coordination, guidance, support, and training for staff.
Supervisory duties include task assignments, workload management, overseeing daily operational programs, training, evaluating, correcting performance, resolving conflict, authorizing leave, and building a productive work environment.
Establishes performance standards, assesses performance, provides feedback, and evaluates assigned personnel performance.
Process Improvement - 10% Works closely with AVP-HR to coordinate special projects and process improvement for the Employee Relations unit to assist with the development and execution of goals and objectives for Employee Services.
Other - 5% Represents HR on institutional and tri-university committees.
Maintains knowledge on current developments and practices in human resources.
Provides/coordinates backup to HR staff as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources OR related field.
Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
Five years of human resource experience, which includes employee relations, performance management, corrective/disciplinary action, and/or related experience.
Three years management or supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or PhD in Human Resources or related field.
Human Resource experience in a higher education or related setting.
SHRM (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) or HRCI (PHR or SPHR).
Demonstrated experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Demonstrated effective communication skills.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary Salary range begins at $95,000.
Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
Benefits This is a Service Professional (SPF) position.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
